o Data Collective Leads $75M Round for Commercial Launch Firm Rocket Lab

San Francisco -- Data Collective, a venture capital firm based in San Francisco and Palo Alto, said on Tuesday it has led a new $75 million fourth round of funding for Huntington Beach-based commercial space company Rocket Lab. Promus Ventures and an undisclosed investor also participated, along with previous backers Bessemer Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures and K1W1. The company, now valued at more than $1 billion, has raised $148 million since its inception. Rocket Lab is aiming to provide frequent launch opportunities for satellite companies. "Currently, small satellite companies wait years to get on orbit, often at the mercy and schedules of larger payloads -- and at extortionate costs," said Matt Ocko of Data Collective. "With Rocket Lab, this huge backlog now has access to a high-frequency, quality launch service." Rocket Lab said it will use the funding to scale production of its Electron rocket, which it will use to launch imaging and communications satellites. Ocko has joined the company's board of directors.

o Oakland-Based Mynd Raises $5.1M for Property Management Technology

Oakland -- Mynd, an Oakland-0based developer of property management technology, said on Tuesday it has raised $5.1 million in a new round of funding, led by Jackson Square Ventures. Other participants in the company's "series A1" round included Canaan Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners and angel investors. Mynd now has raised $10.6 million to date, including a $5.5 million first round led by Canaan Partners in October. The company's technology, systems and data, including a real-time mobile app, are designed to help property owners more efficiently manage multi-family residential buildings with 50 units or less, as well as single family rentals. Through a mobile app or online dashboard, owners can view real-time information on rental income, vacancies and work orders, as well as communicate with Mynd's property management team. The company on Tuesday also announced the expansion of its property management service into the Greater San Jose area, after launching its private beta in the East Bay last fall. Plans call for further expansion into San Francisco and Marin this summer.

o Santa Rose-Based Keysight Raising $400 Million to Pay for Ixia Acquisition

Santa Rosa, Calif. -- Two months after announcing plans to acquire Calabasas-based Ixia, Santa Rosa-based Keysight Technologies, the developer of test and measurement tools, said it plans to raise $400 million through a public stock offering to help pay for the deal. Goldman, Sachs & Co.; BofA Merrill Lynch; Citigroup and BNP Paribas will serve as lead underwriters of the offering, which the company will use to finance the cash consideration of its $1.6 billion deal for Ixia, a developer of application testing, visibility and security tools. The combined company will develop technologies spanning electronic design, device and network validation, and application and security performance. The acquisition, announced in January, is expected to close by the end of October.

Foster City, Calif. -- SutroVax, a Foster City-based biopharmaceutical firm focused on vaccines designed to prevent infectious diseases, said on Tuesday it has raised $60 million in its second round of funding, co-led by new investors Frazier Healthcare Partners and Pivotal bioVenture Partners. Previous backers Abingworth, Longitude Capital, Roche Venture Fund and CTI Life Sciences Fund also participated, and are investing an additional $4 million outside of the round. SutroVax said it will use the proceeds to advance its lead pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV), which prevents invasive pneumococcal disease, and accelerate its antigen discovery and early-stage development efforts in other disease areas. "The closing of this round… is an important milestone for SutroVax and reflects the significant achievements we have made in developing a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine product candidate with the potential to disrupt a market with annual sales of over $7 billion," said CEO Grant Pickering. "This financing enables us to advance our lead PCV program into the clinic and expand our R&D, clinical development and manufacturing organizations."
