o San Francisco-Based EaseCentral Raises $6.5 Million in First Round

San Francisco -- EaseCentral, the San Francisco-based developer of a cloud-based benefits enrollment software platform for insurance brokers and employers, said on Tuesday it has raised $6.5 million in its first round of funding, led by Propel Venture Partners. Previous backers Freestyle Capital, Compound, Upside Partnership and Transmedia Capital also participated. The company, which now has raised $11.5 million since its inception in 2012, said it will use the latest funds to expand nationally, after originally launching on the West Coast in 2015. Plans call for the opening of a New York office this fall, as well as additional hires sales, engineering and marketing. The funds also will help grow the company's core product services, including additional HR partnerships and electronic data interchange (EDI) integrations. EaseCentral also announced the launch of two new offerings for health insurance brokers -- an employee-facing mobile app for iOS devices and an integration with ADP enabling seamless payroll functionality.

o Santa Clara-Based CloudPost Networks Lands $4 Million in First Round

Santa Clara, Calif. -- CloudPost Networks, a Santa Clara-based developer of security and risk management software designed to let companies deploy IoT devices across their operations, said on Tuesday it ahs landed $4 million in its first round of funding. Wing Venture Capital led the round, which also included participation from Dan Warmenhoven, the former executive chairman and CEO of NetApp; Dominic Orr, the former president at Aruba; Pankaj Patel, the former executive vice president and chief development officer of Cisco; and Prakash Bhalerao, an entrepreneur and venture capitalist. CloudPost's software identifies IoT devices and vulnerabilities, manages risks and protects business-critical systems. "Traditional security models do not have the precision required to identify and prevent directed attacks against IoT systems," said co-founder and CEO Pandian Gnanaprakasam. "CloudPost identifies, monitors and protects every IoT device and system in the enterprise."

o San Rafael-Based Autodesk Names Andrew Anagnost as New CEO

San Rafael, Calif. -- Autodesk, the San Rafael-based developer of architecture and designed software, has named Andrew Anagnost as its president and CEO. Anagnost had been serving as the company's co-CEO in addition to his role as chief marketing officer (CMO) since the resignation of former CEO Carl Bass in February. Amar Hanspal, Autodesk's chief product officer who also had been serving as co-CEO, has decided to leave the company. Anagnost has been with Autodesk since 1997, previously serving as its CMO and senior vice president of its business strategy and marketing organization. "Andrew has been instrumental in the development and execution of Autodesk's successful business model transition, and with his leadership, we are confident that our move to the cloud and subscription will continue to be successful," said Chairman Crawford Beveridge.

o San Francisco's Cosmo Tech Lands $3 Million in Follow-On Funding

San Francisco -- Cosmo Tech, a developer of decision management technology with dual headquarters in San Francisco and France, said on Tuesday it has raised $3 million in a follow-on round of funding. Previous backer Sofimac Partners led the round, which also included participation from new investor BNP Paribas DeƬveloppement and previous investor Aster Capital. The company, previously known as The CoSMo Company, now has raised $8.2 million since 2014. "The potential to take the interest and success we've found in Europe to the global market is enormous," said co-founder and CEO Hugues de Bantel. "From planning for epidemics to optimizing a smart city, executives in every field can augment their own intelligence, and in doing so, gain a new level of understanding into the impact their decisions will have throughout the business."

o Mountain View-Based EdCast Acquires Sociative

Mountain View, Calif. -- EdCast, the Mountain View-based developer of a personalized learning platform, said on Tuesday it has acquired Corte Madera-based Sociative, creator of a highly focused content-discovery technology. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. EdCast said it plans to integrate the company's technology, which utilizes topical influencers, personalization and machine learning, into its platform. "The future of knowledge and learning is about deep personalization and contextualization, so that learning and working can become more fully integrated," said founder and CEO Karl Mehta. Sociative founders Michael Tolson and Brad DeGraf have joined the company as vice president of AI and vice president of customer engineering, respectively. The deal marks EdCast's second acquisition in the past year, after the company last June acquired Seattle-based Sales University.
