o Redwood City-Based Sumo Logic Lands $75 Million in New Funding

Redwood City, Calif. -- Sumo Logic, the Redwood City-based developer of a cloud-native machine data analytics platform, said it has landed $75 million in a new round of funding, led by Sapphire Ventures. Accel Partners, DFJ Growth, Greylock Partners, Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), Sequoia Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures also took part in the round, which increased the company's total backing to $235 million since its inception seven years ago. The company said it will use the proceeds to bolster its engineering, sales and global operations, with a focus on extending the capabilities of its service to address areas such as operational and security analytics, advanced machine learning and IoT. "This investment… reflects the company's progress and provides the capital needed to become the dominant SaaS leader in the machine data analytics category," said CEO Ramin Sayar. Sumo Logic said its platform is now used by more than 1,500 clients, analyzing well over 100 petabytes of data a day.

o Sunnyvale-Based Platform9 Raises $22 Million in Third Round

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Platform9, a Sunnyvale-based provider of open source-as-a-service for clients deploying hybrid clouds across multiple platforms, said on Wednesday it has raised $22 million in its third round of funding, led by Canvas Ventures. HP Enterprise also participated in the round, along with previous backers Redpoint Ventures and Menlo Ventures. The company, which now has raised $36.5 million since its inception, said it will use the latest proceeds to expand its global sales, product and marketing teams, as well as boost engineering investments. Platform9's cloud delivery model lets users deploy and manage hybrid clouds with popular cloud frameworks such as Kubernetes, OpenStack and Fission. Clients include Cadence Design, Autodesk, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Sony PlayStation. "Enterprises today are racing to adopt the cloud, but struggle with managing numerous infrastructure silos, ranging from legacy virtualized data centers to pockets of public cloud deployments," said CEO Sirish Raghuram. "We enable infrastructure anywhere to be easily managed."

o San Francisco's DayTwo Secures $12 Million in First Round of Funding

San Francisco -- DayTwo, the San Francisco- and Israel-based provider of a DNA sequencing service that explores the gut microbiome to help users live healthier and maintain normal blood sugar levels, said it has raised $12 million in its first round of funding. Investors included Johnson & Johnson Innovation, Seventure Partners' Health for Life Capital fund, Mayo Clinic, co-founder Marius Nacht and other private investors. The company, which now has raised $17 million since its inception, said it will use the latest funds to expand its product, engineering and data science teams in Tel Aviv and San Francisco. In addition, DayTwo said it will deepen its clinical research with the Mayo Clinic and other gut-microbiome clinical research partners. DayTwo has developed a method to accurately predict people's glycemic response to specific foods and food combinations using their microbiome and other clinical factors. The company then uses that information in its cloud-based diet and nutrition planner, giving users personalized scores based on what they eat. "We've just scratched the surface of how powerful the microbiome is to support personalized diet, nutrition, and chronic condition management," said CEO Lihi Segal. "DayTwo has brought actionable, evidence-based science down to a mobile app, to make personalized nutrition easy and convenient for the first time."

o Ford Teams with Motivate to Launch Expanded Bike-Share Program in Bay Area

San Francisco -- Commuters in the Bay Area will have more two-wheeled options to get around town under a new program that launched Thursday. Automaker Ford said it has teamed with Motivate to expand the area's bike-share program -- now called Ford GoBike -- with plans to make 3,500 technology-enabled bicycles available throughout San Francisco, East Bay and San Jose by the end of summer. The bikes feature gears and brakes specifically designed to more easily navigate hilly terrain, as well as puncture-resistant tires and motion-activated lights. People can become members of the program by registering at FordGoBike.com or walking up to a station. Users of Ford's FordPass app can find and rent available bikes through their mobile devices. The app also will send notifications, including the time of a user's current ride and number of miles ridden on a trip. By the end of 2018, Ford GoBike aims to house 7,000 bikes at 546 stations, making it the nation's second-largest bike-share program. Ford and Motivate have worked with local officials, community groups, civic associations and others to determine specifications and station locations for the Bay Area.
