o San Francisco-Based Kinetica Raises $50 Million in First Round

San Francisco -- Kinetica, the San Francisco-based developer of a GPU-accelerated relational database designed to run significantly faster than traditional databases, said on Thursday it has raised $50 million in its first round of funding, co-led by Canvas Ventures and Meritech Capital Partners. New investor Citi Ventures and previous investor Ray Lane of GreatPoint Ventures also participated. Gary Little, a partner at Canvas Ventures, and Paul Madera, a partner at Meritech Capital, have joined the company's board of directors. Kinetica, which now has raised $63 million since its inception, said it will use the latest proceeds to hire additional engineering, sales and marketing staff, as well as open new foreign offices. "Our goal is to extend the use of our product at Fortune 2000 companies and to other businesses that would like to glean real-time insights in the fastest possible way from the data sources they have today and any kind of data in the future -- including data generated from sensors in cars, appliances, banking systems, medical devices and data sources not yet imagined," said co-founder and CEO Amit Vij. Customers include GlaxoSmithKline, PG&E, the U.S. Postal Service and IronNet Cybersecurity.

o S.F.-Based Swift Navigation Raises $34 Million in Second Round

San Francisco -- Swift Navigation, a San Francisco-based tech firm developing centimeter-accurate GPS technology for autonomous vehicles, said it has raised $34 million in its second round of funding, led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA). Previous backers Eclipse and First Round Capital also took part in the round, which increased the company's total funding to $47.6 million. Swift delivers GPS designed to be 100 times more accurate than the GPS found in typical phones. The company currently provides its technology to more than 2,000 customers, including those focused on autonomous vehicles, precision agriculture, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), robotics, maritime, transportation/logistics and outdoor industrial applications. "We are encouraged by the tremendous market opportunity for precision navigation that is required by autonomous vehicles," said Timothy Harris, the company's co-founder and CEO.

o San Francisco-Based Cabin Raises $3.3 Million for "Moving Hotel"

San Francisco -- Cabin, a San Francisco-based hospitality transportation startup, said it has raised $3.3 million in seed funding and launched what it calls a "moving hotel." Founders Fund's FF Angel led the round, which included participation from SV Angel, Floodgate, Box Group, Brainchild Holdings, Justin Rosenstein, StartX, FJ Labs and 1517 Fund. Cabin operates a service that lets customers check into an amenity-laden private cabin, which is then driven to an arrival destination overnight. Guests check out in their arrival city at 7 a.m. The company, initially run as a pilot called SleepBus in early 2016, plans to use the funds to expand on a regional and national basis. The service currently only operates between San Francisco and Los Angeles, with prices starting at $115 each way. "By eliminating the travel time from traveling, Cabin is giving people the freedom to get where they need to be -- without having to spend their precious time in transit," said co-founder and CEO Tom Currier.

o Report: Global IPO Market Off to Strong Start in '17

London -- The global market for initial public offerings (IPOs) is off to one of its strongest starts in nearly a decade so far this year, according to a new report from EY. During the first six months of 2017, proceeds from the offerings rose 90% to $83.4 billion, with the number of IPOs also increasing by 70% (772), compared with the first half of last year. It marked the most active first half of a year by since the first half of 2007. The Asia-Pacific region led the global market in terms of volume and proceeds, accounting for 61% of IPOs and 44% of proceeds, with the Americas region accounting for 13% of IPOs. "The sentiment is strong for the second half of 2017," said Jackie Kelley, EY's Americas IPO markets leader. "More marquee company names have entered the filing process and first-day performances remain steady. This combination has been the catalyst for building a solid pipeline for the remainder of the year. While fiscal and policy regulation remains uncertain, the markets have been insulated to this and continue to experience low volatility."
