o Mountain View-Based Addepar Raises $140 Million in Fourth Round

Mountain View, Calif. -- Addepar, the Mountain View-based developer of a financial operating system designed to give wealth advisors technology and data to advise complex clients, said on Thursday it has raised $140 million in its fourth round of funding, co-led by Valor Equity Partners, 8VC and QuantRes founder Harald McPike. The company said it will use the proceeds to bolster research and development and expand its product, platform and tech-enabled services. The financing comes on the heels of recent growth that has seen the company's assets spike from $300 billion to more than $650 billion in the past 18 months. Founded in 2009, Addepar has developed a technology platform to power its performance reporting product, and has opened APIs to integrate with complementary products. Co-founder Joe Lonsdale, also a co-founder of Palantir Technologies and partner at 8VC, said that the latest funding makes the company "poised to become the universal operating system to power global finance."

o Sunnyvale-Based Yahoo to Close Sale of Operating Business Next Week

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Yahoo said it expects to complete the $4.48 billion sale of its operating business to Verizon Communications next Tuesday after shareholders on Thursday approved the deal. Following the close, the Sunnyvale-based company will change its name to Altaba. Verizon said it sees the deal, first announced last July, as the quickest path to bolster its presence in the digital advertising space. Highly publicized data breaches at Yahoo nearly derailed the sale, but the two sides in February agreed to new terms, lowering the price by $350 million and agreeing to share some legal and regulatory liabilities. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer recently said the transaction "will accelerate Yahoo's operating business especially on mobile, while effectively separating our Asian asset equity stakes."

Eric Schmidt's Innovation Endeavors, DCVC (Data Collective) and Prelude Ventures co-led the round, which also included participation from Jerry Yang's AME Cloud Ventures and XSeed Capital. o Pandora Puts KKR Deal on Hold While Exploring Other Interest

Oakland -- A month after announcing a $150 million investment commitment from KKR, Oakland-based Internet radio service Pandora said on Thursday it has put the closing on hold while it explores interest expressed by an unspecified strategic investor. The company said the potential investor has made overtures about "making a substantial minority investment in Pandora, in lieu of the KKR investment." Pandora said that if it determines the KKR deal to be superior, it will "close immediately following the expiration of this extended period." Under that deal, the investment firm plans to buy $150 million of the company's convertible preferred stock. Pandora will have the option to increase the amount to $250 million if it chooses to issue additional shares.
