o Mountain View-Based HyTrust Raises $36 Million, Acquires DataGravity

Mountain View, Calif. -- HyTrust, a Mountain View-based developer of tools designed to automate security controls on private, public and hybrid cloud infrastructure, said on Tuesday it has raised $36 million in its fifth round of funding, using a portion of the proceeds to acquire New Hampshire-based DataGravity. Advance Venture Partners (AVP) led the round, which also included participation from previous backers Sway Ventures, Epic Ventures, Vanedge Capital and Trident Capital, as well as new investors Cisco, Fortinet, Intel and VMware. The company said it will use a portion of the funds to expand its sales and marketing efforts, and to fund new product development. HyTrust also has acquired data visibility and security company DataGravity in a bid to bolster its data security tools focused on protecting workload data. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. "The acquisition will accelerate the expansion of HyTrust's platform capabilities and capitalize on the high-growth cloud security market," said Eric Chiu, the company's co-founder and president. DataGravity's staff will join HyTrust.

o San Francisco-Based Move Guides Lands $48 Million in Third Round

San Francisco -- Move Guides, a U.K.-based developer of cloud-based software designed to help companies move and manage mobile workers, with U.S. headquarters in San Francisco, said on Tuesday it has raised $48 million in its third round of funding. Future Fund, New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Notion Capital took part in the round, which increased the company's total funding to $91 million since its inception in 2012. "Global mobility management is the next frontier for HR tech," said Ravi Viswanathan, a general partner at NEA. "Move Guides has developed the first cloud-based software platform to power the mobile workforce. They are disrupting traditional relocation companies and ushering in the future of talent management and workforce planning." The news comes three months after Move Guides acquired Estonia-based Teleport, developer of apps designed to help knowledge workers find their best places to live and work.

o Redwood City-Based Lastline Secures $28.5 Million in Third Round

Redwood City, Calif. -- Lastline, a Redwood City-based developer of malware protection tools, said on Tuesday it has secured $28.5 million in its third round of funding, led by Thomvest Ventures. Previous backers Osage University Partners and Redpoint Ventures also participated, along with Barracuda Networks, NTT Finance and WatchGuard Technologies. The company said it will use the funds to expand its sales and marketing activities and bolster its development organization. Umesh Padval, a partner at Thomvest, and Barmak Meftah, the president and CEO of AlienVault, have joined the company's board of directors. "This funding, strengthened board and the resulting growth will solidify Lastline as the leader in advanced breach detection," said co-founder and CEO Christopher Kruegel.

o Mountain View-Based Symantec to Acquire Palo Alto's Skycure

Mountain View, Calif. -- Symantec, the Mountain View-based Internet security giant, said on Tuesday it will acquire Palo Alto-based mobile threat defense firm Skycure. Financial terms of the deal, expected to close by the end of September, were not disclosed. Symantec said that Skycure's predictive threat detection techniques will bolster its own enterprise and consumer mobility offerings, helping clients ensure that employees' devices are secure while they access corporate resources. "One of the most dangerous assumptions in today's world is that iOS and other mobile devices that employees bring into the office are safe, but the apps and data on these devices are under increasing attack," said CEO Greg Clark. "Mobile is a core component of our strategy and the acquisition of Skycure is a major step forward in executing it." Skycure is backed by investors including Foundation Capital, Shasta Ventures, Pitango Venture Capital, New York Life, Mike Weider, Peter McKay and Lane Bess.

o Palo Alto-Based Nok Nok Labs Raises $8 Million in Fourth Round

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Nok Nok Labs (NNL), a Palo Alto-based developer of client and server authentication software, said on Tuesday it has landed $8 million in its fourth round of funding, led by Motorola Solutions Venture Capital. Previous backers DCM Ventures, DDS, DOCOMO Innovations, Korea Information Certificate Authority (KICA), Lenovo Group and ONSET Ventures also participated. Nok Nok said it will use the proceeds to accelerate the deployment of its technology across private and public markets, including government, public safety and first responder agencies. The company, a founding member of the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance), also plans to expand its channel infrastructure. "Having Motorola Solutions as a strategic investor and partner will accelerate the use of FIDO enabled technologies in market verticals that have the most need for upgrading critical authentication infrastructure," said founder Ramesh Kesanupalli.

Campbell, Calif. -- Bitglass, a Campbell-based provider of cloud-based data protection services, said on Tuesday it has promoted Rich Campagna to the role of CEO, taking over for retiring co-founder Nat Kausik. Campagna helped launch the company out of stealth in 2013, and most recently served as its senior vice president of product marketing. Earlier, he served as the senior director of product management at F5 Networks, Kausik will remain an advisor to the company. The news comes six months after Bitglass raised $45 million in its third round of funding from investors including Future Fund, New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Norwest and Singtel Innov8. The company's service provides end-to-end data protection from the cloud to the device, allowing clients to enforce corporate data security policies across apps like Office 365, Salesforce and Exchange.

It marks Seacoast's first investment in the company, which develops tools used to manage video surveillance cameras and other security edge devices.
