o San Francisco-Based Juvo Lands $40 Million in Second Round of Funding

San Francisco -- Juvo, the San Francisco-based developer of a service designed to establish financial identities for people who are creditworthy but financially excluded, said on Tuesday it has raised $40 million in its second round of funding, co-led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Wing Venture Capital. SignalFire and several previous backers also took part in the round, which the company will use to expand internationally -- particularly in Asia, Latin America and Europe -- and broaden its financial service offerings. Peter Wagner, founding partner of Wing, has joined the company's board of directors. Juvo, which emerged from stealth 10 months ago, partners with mobile operators and financial institutions, using credit algorithms to identify previously anonymous prepaid subscribers who want to build financial identities and gain access to basic financial services. The company currently partners with seven mobile operators with a reach of over 500 million subscribers. "Today, there are over two billion underbanked people in the world – most of whom have a mobile phone," said CEO Steve Polsky. "Juvo reaches these individuals, identifies them as creditworthy and provides access to financial services."

o Burlingame-Based Booster Fuels Raises $20 Million in Second Round

Burlingame, Calif. -- Booster Fuels, the Burlingame-based developer of an app-based service that delivers gasoline to cars in parking lots, said on Tuesday it has raised $20 million in its second round of funding, led by Conversion Capital. Other participants included previous backers Maveron, Madrona Venture Group, Version One, Perot Jain LP and RRE Ventures, as well as new investors Stanford-StartX Fund, BADR investments and U.S. Venture. The company, which now has raised $32 million since its inception, said it will use the latest funds to drive growth and enhance its "core experience." Booster delivers and pumps gas in office parking lots in the San Francisco Bay and Dallas-Fort Worth areas, using custom-built purple mini-tankers to navigate tight spaces. Customers request a fill-up when they get to work, use the app to pin their car location and get a full tank before they leave the office. The company said it can offer competitive pricing by exclusively operating in lots where density is high. "The challenge is much more than developing an on-demand app," said CEO Frank Mycroft. "Our full-stack implementation is built upon our proprietary transport equipment, supply procurement, routing algorithms and mobile experiences." Christian Lawless, managing partner of Conversion Capital, has joined the company's board of directors.

The company, which now has raised $23.4 million since its inception in 2015, also counts Andreessen Horowitz, Stanford-StartX and Accomplice Ventures among its backers. UnifyID said it will use the latest proceeds to grow its staff, expand enterprise trials and accelerate research and development activities. "Our goal is seamless security: you can be yourself and the devices and services you interact with will naturally recognize you based on what makes you unique," said founder John Whaley. The company's platform utilizes sensor data from everyday devices and machine learning to authenticate users based on unique factors like the way they walk, type and sit.
