o Los Gatos-Based Netflix Acquires Millarworld in First-Ever Acquisition

Los Gatos, Calif. -- In its first-ever acquisition, Los Gatos-based Netflix, the developer of a video subscription service for movies and TV shows, said on Monday it has acquired comic book publisher Millarworld. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Millarworld was founded by Mark Millar, the creator of such characters and stories as Kick-Ass, Kingsman and Old Man Logan. In his eight years at Marvel, Millar developed the comic books and story arcs that inspired the first Avengers movie, Captain America: Civil War, and Logan (Wolverine), which collectively grossed over $3 billion in worldwide box office. Netflix said it plans to bring Millarworld's portfolio of character franchises to life through films, series and kids' shows available exclusively to members globally. Millarworld also will continue to publish new stories and character franchises under the Netflix label. "We look forward to creating new Netflix Originals from several existing franchises as well as new super-hero, anti-hero, fantasy, sci-fi and horror stories Mark and his team will continue to create and publish," said Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer of Netflix.
