o Palo Alto-Based Kyndi Raises $8.5 Million in Second Round of Funding

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Kyndi, a Palo Alto-based developer of artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed to help users anticipate opportunities and threats, said on Tuesday it has raised $8.5 million in its second round of funding. PivotNorth Capital, Darling Ventures and Citrix Systems took part in the round, which increases the company's total backing to $12 million since its inception in 2014. Kyndi's technology helps organizations analyze massive amounts of unstructured data to anticipate what could occur in the future, even identifying very "weak" signals pointing to seemingly unknowable intentions. The information aims to help users act more decisively to capitalize on untapped opportunities and mitigate threats. "Organizations of all types and sizes are struggling to analyze and leverage the growing volumes of data they've already collected," said Andy Cohen, the vice president of strategic development and investments at Citrix.

o Santa Clara-Based Intel Completes Tender Offer for Mobileye

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Intel, the Santa Clara-based chipmaker, said on Tuesday it has completed its tender offer for shares of Israel-based Mobileye, a developer of computer vision and machine learning tools for driver assistance systems and autonomous driving. The company said the $15.3 billion acquisition, first announced in March, will bolster its position in the fast-growing market for autonomous vehicle systems, data and services, expected to grow to $70 billion by 2030. "With Mobileye, Intel emerges as a leader in creating the technology foundation that the automotive industry needs for an autonomous future," said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. "It's an exciting engineering challenge and a huge growth opportunity for Intel." Intel's Automated Driving Group will combine its operations with Mobileye, which will remain headquartered in Israel and led by CEO Amnon Shashua. Co-founder Ziv Aviram is retiring from the company.

Google Fires Author of Controversial Internal Memo

Mountain View, Calif. -- The author of a controversial Google memo claiming that men were better suited than women for careers in technology has been fired, CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in a note to employees, published by Recode. The unidentified author had claimed that biological issues prevented women from outperforming their male counterparts. Pichai said the memo violated the company's code of conduct, crossing the line by "advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace." The memo was the subject of heated debate over the weekend on Google's internal discussion boards. "To suggest a group of our colleagues have traits that make them less biologically suited to that work is offensive and not OK," said Pichai.
