o San Jose-Based MojiLaLa Lands $1.5 Million for Emoji Marketplace

San Jose, Calif. -- MojiLaLa, the San Jose-based developer of an emoji marketplace that lets creators sell their emoji designs to the public, said it has landed $1.5 million in a new round of seed funding. Great Oaks VC, betaworks ventures and IVP partner Dennis Phelps took part in the round, which the company will use to scale its platform and expand its engineering team. o Apps by Samsung, Google Rank as Most Draining on Android Devices

Redwood City, Calif. -- Samsung's AllShare app, which lets users share content across their connected devices, tops Redwood City-based Avast's latest ranking of the mobile apps that most deplete battery life, storage capacity and data plan usage on Android devices. In fact, apps published by Samsung and Google take up each of the top 10 spots on the list of apps that run at startup, and five of the top seven among apps run by users. Most improved for the quarter were picture messenger tool Snapchat, social media giant Facebook and music streaming behemoth Spotify, which previously had occupied three of the four top spots for performance-draining apps run by users and on start-up. "For many of us, our smartphones are the main device in our everyday lives," said Gagan Singh, the senior vice president and general manager of mobile business at Avast. "Knowing which of our favorite apps are the hardest-hitting on battery life, data usage, and storage is important so we can manage any that we are regularly using on our phones." The rankings were compiled from information from more than 3 million Android users.
