o San Jose-Based CY Vision Raises $7 Million in First Round of Funding

San Jose, Calif. -- CY Vision, a San Jose-based developer of computational holographic technology designed to power AR and VR head worn displays, said on Wednesday it has raised $7 million in its first round of funding, led by Vestel Ventures. Intel Capital also took part in the round. CY Vision, which was spun out of Koc University, Istanbul's university lab in 2016. said its display technology will enable the use of holography for next generation AR and VR headsets. The company said the technology will make AR/VR a safer and more comfortable experience for users. "Our computational holographic technology, combined with pupil tracking, mimics exactly the way our brain and eyes function to present 3D information," said co-founder and CEO Orkun Oguz. "Our solutions generate the same information to the eyes that a real-world 3D scene would generate, with all the visual depth cues. We will use this investment to develop our technology further, which we believe will solve one of the biggest challenges in AR/VR today related to visual comfort."

o San Francisco-Based Catalia Health Raises $4 Million in New Funding

San Francisco -- Catalia Health, the San Francisco-based developer of an AI-powered patient engagement platform, said on Wednesday it has landed $4 million in a new round of funding, which the company is calling its "pre-Series A round." Ion Pacific led the round, which Catalia will use to begin patient rollout, expand into new disease states, grow the company and acquire new customers. Khosla Ventures, NewGen Ventures, Abstract Ventures and Tony Ling also participated in the round, which increased the company total funding to $7.75 million. Catalia's healthcare companion, Mabu, supports 117 million patients living with chronic illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis, late-stage kidney disease and congestive heart failure. Mabu completes daily check-ins using tailored conversations with patients to help them manage care routines, overcome the challenges of isolating illnesses and provide insight to healthcare professionals about patient health, progress and adherence to treatment. "We've seen great traction since the close of our seed extension, and this additional funding is a great proof point for the platform we've developed and will help us more rapidly expand the number of patients who can benefit from interactions with Mabu," said founder and CEO Cory Kidd.
